Saint John, NB, Canada 6/30/09- After Mother Nature won out the past two weeks, the Lonnie Sommerville Racing team and the rest of the Carquest Maritime Pro Stock Tour heads to Scotia Speedworld for their second of three stops at the D-shaped oval.  In the first race at Scotia, Sommerville started fourth but early race contact sent him to the rear of the field. Fortunately, Sommerville was able to bounce back to a fifth place finish. Since then Sommerville has risen to the points lead and hopes that his notes from the last race at Scotia will catapult him to a win at the 3/10th mile oval.

QUOTES

-This will be the first time this year on the tour that you will be heading back to a place you’ve already raced at this season, what’s the mindset heading into this weekend and what do you need to do differently compared to last time when you were at Scotia to improve on your fifth place finish?

“Anytime you go back to a place it gives you a little head start on setup and what you expect during the race. This year we had a pretty good car, I don’t think it was a race winning car so that means we have some room to improve from last time there. Last time there (Scotia) we got in some trouble that put us in the back early on so if we can just start up front and stay up front then we’ll be fine.”

-Every track has its particulars, what is the key to producing a solid finish at Scotia?

“Track position without a doubt. Scotia is a tough place to pass and tricky track to get around all together. You really have to qualify good to make sure you can start up front because if not you can easily get caught up in someone else’s mess or wear out your equipment trying to get to the front. Scotia is known for making your car tight, especially over a long run so whoever can get their car turning in the center of the turn the best will have the best shot of winning.”

-Two of the four MPST races have been rained out so far this season and will be made up at a later date, how does that affect you and your team?

“Well for one, I don’t like being out of the seat that long that’s for sure, but really other than that it doesn’t really make a difference to me when we race. The only thing I’m worried about is the possibility of them (MPST) rescheduling a race on a date that we plan on racing a PASS race at. If we raced every weekend this season that would be fine with me and I think that would actually play into my favor so just as long as I can come down south to race I’m good to go.”
