The Right
Attitude Means Everything to Casey Smith
Austin, TX 4/29/08- Despite a less
than par season so far for the Casey Smith Racing team, the twenty-two year
old Texas native is ready to roll for the Viper Super Late Model series
season opener on May 3rd at the South Alabama Speedway.
Fortunately for Smith the rough start has very little to do with his on
track performance and it’s because of this that Casey is in such high
spirits going into this weekend’s race.
“It’s starting to be almost routine it seems
for a slow start then after we get our problems out of the way it’s on. We
had a slow start last season because of mechanical problems then we came to
this same race and dominated the next few races we ran at Opp and Mobile. So
to be down in the dumps about not running well doesn’t do any good, we just
have to bounce back strong and be there at the end to contend for the win.
It would be great to be back to back Viper series champion,” said Casey.
Last season in his #99 Rapid Disposal/Gary
Buchanan Custom Homes Chevy Monte Carlo, Smith won all
four Viper series races with each being done in a dominating fashion
including two poles and a worst qualifying position of sixth. But for Casey
and his “let’s not dwell on the past” attitude last season is all history.
“Success in racing is like looking in the
rear-view mirror on a long road trip, you know what the area you see in the
mirror looks like and what it feels like to be there but now its history
even though it was just a 100 yards back, to get where you’re going you have
to stay focused on the road ahead. So that’s exactly what everyone on this
team has been doing since our last outing is looking at the road ahead. The
whole team has worked hard to get this car put back together every week over
that last month so I really want to thank them for their hard work and
dedication,” stated Smith.
