Wimberley, TX 4/11/08- The second race of the year for the Trey Mitchell Racing team was something they soon hope to forget. Driver Trey Mitchell and crew chief Freddie Query traveled to round two of the ASA Southeast Asphalt Tour (SAT) held at Georgia’s own Watermelon Capital Speedway in Cordele, GA. Mitchell would wheel his #47 unsponsored Ford Fusion to a twenty-third place finish after starting from the twentieth spot.

Trouble started for the team on Friday when rain came through the Cordele area putting a damper on practice just as the team was rolling out on the track. The wet weather carried over to Saturday forcing SAT officials to move not only the day’s activities but the race event to Sunday thus again not allowing the Trey Mitchell Racing team to hit the track for very much needed practice. For some competitors track time may not be of too much of importance but for Mitchell, a driver who never had seen the speedway until the day he arrived for practice; each minute was ever so valuable.

“The limited track time this weekend definitely hurt us. When it’s a track you have never seen before there are so many things that you need to pick up such as breaking points, where to get back in the throttle at, things like that. There are just so many small things like that, the only way you are going learn it is by logging laps around the place. Fortunately the rain went away and we were able to get an hour of practice in before qualifying but we had a few small mechanical hiccups during practice that slowed us up a bit,” said Mitchell.

At the start of the event Mitchell quickly made his way to the front but soon there after break problems plagued the team. Trey reported to the team that it seemed like he did not have full breaking power entering the corners. The team struggled through the rest of the afternoon before coming across the finish line in the twenty-third position.

“This was a race we’d soon like to forget. Between the brake problems and starting deep in the field it was a long night. We made the decision to go race at Opp (South Alabama Speedway) next weekend (April 19th). We put it on the pole the first time we were their last year so we have some pretty high expectations, we’ll just have to see what the future hold,” stated Mitchell.
