North, SC 3/15/08- For South Carolina late model stock car driver, Travis Sharpe the 2007 season was considered a sub-par season. Most up and coming racers would consider posting four top five finishes and thirteen top ten finishes in nineteen Nascar Whelen All-American weekly series starts at the tricky Concord Motorsports Park in Concord, NC a satisfying year but that wasn’t the case for Sharpe.

When the season came to a close and the look ahead to 08’ began, Sharpe thought that he had much to look forward to. However in December that all came to a halt when Sharpe was involved in a serious auto accident which resulted in him spending time in intensive care, having pins placed in his hand, and several abrasions throughout his head. Doctors became worried about the possibilities of head trauma but after several tests revealed that there was no internal damage, high hopes of a full recovery would be possible. So after a few months of rest and special recuperation Sharpe has realized that any season behind the wheel of a racecar, something he loves so much, is a good season.

“After last season I was disappointed but since the accident happened it’s made me realize what was important in the past may not be as important as we as people make it out to be. So to be able to just have the chance to race again and do it at 100% without any complications is what I’m happy about. You just really don’t know how good you’ve got it until it comes close to being taken away,” stated Sharpe.

Travis has taken advantage of some special rehabilitation; climbing behind the wheel of a dirt go-kart competing at various tracks throughout South Carolina and Georgia. In just his first few races competing Sharpe captured victories in several different classes. But for Travis he sees this as just a preview of what the futures holds, he wants the opportunity to again compete for the track championship at Concord Motorsports Park. However the only way for that to be possible this season will be with the help of potential sponsors.

“We are planning on competing in about three to five races this year on our own but past that it all depends on sponsorship. We are getting the car prepared and ready to go just like any other season but for me to tell you the races we will run are still up in question. We really need help from a sponsor and that’s the bottom line. So if there is any one that has even the slightest interest they should go ahead and contact us to see what we could put together because we definitely have experience of doing a lot with a little,” said Sharpe.
